And some of my favourites

  • PianoTeq v7

    • This is one of the pinnacles of our ability to model the real world with numbers; no samples, just maths. I could blab on for hours about how amazing it is, just try it out if you need a piano plugin.

  • Zebra2 (recent HZ upgrade)

    • Ahh, this old favourite. This has been in 95% of my projects for the last decade, great for super-fast sound design, I find. Zebra3’s going to be pretty good..

  • TAL J-8

    • I played on a Jupiter8 in 1984 for a few days, and this is the most accurate, ‘instantly playable’ version. Instant-80’s!

  • Addictive Drums 2

    • Such a great plugin for getting radio-ready acoustic drums. Each ‘mic’ has a perfectly-tuned channel strip, some of the distortion algorithms ended up in RC-20 I believe.

  • Sonic Charge MicroTonic

    • Probably classed as a vintage plugin these days, but it’s so quick to dial in usable toppers and percussion parts. Magnus released some scripts recently which turned it into some classic beatboxes like KR55, LM-2 and Emu MP7, all synthesised. Nice.

  • Eventide UltraChannel

    • I used to only use this for the MicroShift ‘doubling’ feature, but it ends up in more EQ->dual-compressor roles.
